I am using the T7 Pro, and have succeeded in writing data to a Dropbox file via a WIFI router. The router (Netgear R6080 'Nighthawk') would not set up without a modem connection to the internet. I may need to collect data in an environment with no access to cloud. Can I write to files on a nearby laptop via WIFI, with or without the router, or do I need another WIFI connection device?
I would imagine that most routers don't require an internet connection in order to configure a local network with WiFi access. Some routers do not even have a modem in them. You can use any router you'd like, though it sounds like you need a router with WiFi. Are you able to configure your router to have a local network and to broadcast a WiFi network? Then are you able to get your laptop and your T7 to join the WiFi network? Then, can you ping the T7's IP address from your laptop? If that doesn't work, your network configurations are incorrect somehow. Once that situation does work, however, can you try unplugging the router from the internet, then try pinging the T7? If that works, you should be good to go.
If you get a new router that doesn't require internet access for configuration (still seems odd to me that any router would require this), you can certainly connect the laptop and T7 to that WiFi network, then collect data on the laptop from the T7. That's how normal WiFi data collection is done from a T7, except that you can skip the step where you configure the router to talk to the internet. Just make sure you can either ping the T7 from the laptop or see the T7's WiFi connection from Kipling to ensure that a connection can be made between the two.
